A sister city since 1965, 2015 will mark the 50th anniversary of the official bond between Caltanissetta, Sicily and Rochester, NY. Ties between the cities go back even farther, however, as some of Rochester’s Italian-American families have relatives or family history in Caltanissetta.

Bamako-Rochester 40th Anniversary

A sister city since 1975, Bamako, Mali is Rochester’s sixth sister city. The two cities have engaged in numerous cultural and educational exchanges, including official visits between each city, professional and municipal affiliations and student exchanges at the secondary and university levels. For the occasion of the 35th anniversary of their relationship, the Bamako-Rochester Sister Cities Committee and InterVol shipped nearly 200 boxes of medical supplies and equipment to Bamako. The shipment provided much needed medical supplies and equipment to several community and rural health clinics in the Bamako region.

Velikiy Novgorod-Rochester 25th Anniversary

Focusing primarily on teacher exchanges and social issues, the Velikiy Novgorod-Rochester Sister Cities bond has been an active relationship now for a quarter century. The sister city bond is associated with Linkages of Rochester, a volunteer organization founded in 1990 that was recently awarded funding from the US-Russia Peer to Peer Dialogue program for a project addressing domestic violence in both countries.

New Online Resource Library Highlights Business Sectors, Quality of Life and Government Links:

Rochester Sister Cities has begun to develop a series of guides to help interested parties navigate the world of business in our sister cities. The guides link to further information on each of the city’s major industries, describe the state of education, the workforce and quality of life, and direct users to the appropriate chambers of commerce and government websites for more details.

The overview will introduce each sister city to Rochester in a way that it has not always viewed its sister cities. Long subjects of primarily cultural and educational exchange, sister cities also have economic potential.

All twelve sister city pages will come to feature similar online business resource libraries in the coming months.
